Bride
Emily was born and raised in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the youngest of 4 children to her parents, Steve and Carol. Emily spent her childhood playing sports, participating in school activities including student government where she developed her love of politics, and spent her summers at Skyline Swim Club where she eventually got her first job as a lifeguard.
Pete Skillman
Groom
Pete grew up in Catonsville, MD with his parents George and Sharon and his younger brother (and Best Man) Phil. In high school, he developed a love for music, singing tenor in chorus and playing “gittas” in the steel drum band. He also did his share of musical theatre.
These days, he works as a Network Data Specialist for the Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland. You can usually find him reading about history, technology, or the history of technology, while he plans his next road trip to explore Civil War battlefields (he’s visited 150 different ones so far). Eventually, he’d like to talk Emily into going out west to see Custer’s Last Stand at the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
He is the proud dad of his Junior Groomsmen, John and Isaac.
Our Story
First date
10 Mar 2020
We met for dinner at Brio in Christiana Mall. After dinner, Emily wanted to shop for shower curtains at Target, and Pete was excited to tag along.
A few days later, COVID-19 shut down the world.
Proposal
8 Mar 2022
Almost two years later, Pete brought Emily back to Brio, but she was clever enough to figure out what he was planning to do. On a bench outside the restaurant where they had shared a lovely conversation on their first date, Emily said yes.
Life Together
Emily and Pete now live in Middletown, Delaware.
They enjoy sharing their interests with each other. In fact, since they met Emily has been dragged to 21 battlefields by Pete, and Pete has been dragged on countless beach trips and even a few political lit drops by Emily.
Their favorite way to spend their free time together is with their friends and family, especially Pete’s two sons John and Isaac.
